Franciscan Works can discuss mission priorities and provide suggested bequest language for review, but we do not provide legal, tax, or estate planning advice. Donors should consult their attorney, estate planner, accountant, tax professional, or financial advisor before including Franciscan Works in their estate plans.

Sample Bequest Language and Tax ID Information

Here’s a sample statement for how you can leave Franciscan Works in your will or trust, though we recommend working with an advisor to finalize any bequest language:

"I hereby give, devise, bequeath Franciscan Works, an Illinois nonprofit corporation with its principal office at 1440 W. Taylor St. #1819 Chicago, IL 60607, Federal Tax ID Number 23-7116589, the sum of $ ___ or % of my total estate determined as of the date of my death, to be used for Franciscan Works’ general use and purpose."

Specific Bequest — a fixed dollar amount

"I give the sum of $[amount] to Franciscan Works, a nonprofit corporation, Federal Tax ID 23-7116589, to be used for its general charitable purposes."

Percentage Bequest — a share of the estate

"I give [X] percent of my total estate to Franciscan Works, a nonprofit corporation, Federal Tax ID 23-7116589, to be used for its general charitable purposes."

Residual Bequest — what remains after other gifts and expenses

"I give the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Franciscan Works, a nonprofit corporation, Federal Tax ID 23-7116589, to be used for its general charitable purposes."

Contingent Bequest — a fallback if a primary beneficiary predeceases you

"If [primary beneficiary] does not survive me, I give [dollar amount / percentage / the residue of my estate] to Franciscan Works, a nonprofit corporation, Federal Tax ID 23-7116589, to be used for its general charitable purposes."
