Franciscan Works is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for the poorest of poor in developing countries through holistic education rooted in Gospel values in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
We develop the individual potential of children living in poverty so they can live as God intended, making full use of their talents and abilities for the common benefit, in communion with God, nature, and all humankind.
Franciscan Works currently supports Liberia Mission, Inc. located in Liberia, West Africa. Liberia Mission is a community of love, learning, work and prayer, providing education, life skills, faith-formation, and opportunity to 500 children and youth. In a nation where two-thirds of children never attend school, we feel a deep calling to provide access to education for the poorest of the poor.
The overriding mission for Franciscan Works is to empower children in Liberia with faith and education. We implement this mission by providing a quality academic and faith-based Catholic education to our students, imparting life skills training to prepare the children for adult responsibilities.
Our education program at its core is a community development effort that will one day provide tangible economic benefits. The objective is to produce educated adults of character and integrity who can support themselves and their families and contribute to their national economy through a productive career. It requires years of dedication and investment to bring this about. This challenge is very difficult in Liberia which experiences intergenerational poverty and a lack of infrastructure from a 14 year civil war and Ebola.
