Franciscan Works is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing a loving home, Catholic education, and life skills training to the poorest of the poor.
We develop the individual potential of children living in poverty so they can live as God intended, making full use of their talents and abilities for the common benefit, in communion with God, nature, and all humankind.
Franciscan Works currently supports Liberia Mission, Inc. located in Liberia, West Africa. The Mission is a faith community educating over 500 children annually. Why Liberia? In a nation where two-thirds of children never attend school, we are called to provide access to Catholic education to help Liberian young people break the chains of poverty.
The overriding mission for Franciscan Works is to empower children in Liberia with faith formation and Catholic education. We implement this mission by providing a quality academic and faith-based Catholic education to our students, imparting life skills training to prepare the children for adult responsibilities.
Our education program at its core is a community development effort that will one day provide tangible economic benefits. The objective is to produce educated adults of character and integrity who can support themselves and their families and contribute to their national economy through a productive career. It requires years of dedication and investment to bring this about. This challenge is very real in Liberia which experiences intergenerational poverty, poor healthcare and lack of infrastructure from a 14 year civil war and Ebola.
